PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will work under general supervision. The specialist may perform a variety of tasks in preparing apartment units for treatment of bed bugs. The specialist will perform heat treatment of the unit and conduct post inspections when completed. This position will be responsible for projecting a positive, professional attitude and demeanor at all times during client contacts. The incumbent must work effectively as part of a team, accept supervision respectfully and politely while promoting goodwill among both authority employees, residents and in the community at large in a style aligned with the objectives and values of the Rockford Housing Authority.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Receive work orders to treat apartment units for bed bugs.
  2. Assist resident or designee (caregiver, etc.) in preparing unit for treatment, as needed.
  3. Bed bug extermination using thermal remediation bed bug heater method in tenant units; including preparing equipment, transporting, setting up, operating and monitoring equipment in units infested with bed bugs.
  4. Ensure safety of residents, employees and the general public while performing duties.
  5. Complete reports and maintain records of treatments.
  6. Attend training/safety meetings and update knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations governing application/treatment.
  7. Tenant education of proper sanitation, prevention of infestation and preparation for treatment.
  8. Provide feedback to supervisor on areas of improvement.
  9. Perform work related, as required. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of one (1) year of successful related work experience (preferred).
  2. Must complete heat treat training and obtain certification (provided by RHA) within one (1) month of employment.
  3. Must be able to prepare simple reports and record-keeping tasks.
  4. Must be able to work independently and under varied amounts of supervision.
  5. Must be able to communicate effectively to interact with empathy and compassion for the diverse population served.
  6. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and fellow employees.
  7. Must have basic knowledge of electronic devices to include but not limited to smartphones, iPads, laptops and desktops.
  8. Must pass a physical examination.
  9. Must have basic knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
  10. Must possess a valid Illinois driver's license, be insurable by RHA and able to provide personal transportation as needed to perform duties (reimbursement will be made per RHA Travel Policy). A copy of current driver's license and personal vehicle liability insurance (if operating a personal vehicle while on RHA business) must be on file in Human Resources.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works indoors (environments that include those with significant pest infestation and high heat); in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will required to do extensive walking, climbing and kneeling. The employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to balance, stoop, crouch, crawl and taste or smell.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 50 pounds or greater w/assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
